UL Lafayette +100 over Tulane
Cajun Field – Lafayette, LA
Streaming: ESPNU
12:00 PM EST. When we browse the menu for options, we look for numbers that stick out and this is one of those occasions. One will note Tulane’s overall stature as a formidable Group of Five team that has made a name for itself by tussling with the big boys and vying for New Year’s Six Bowls as of recent. Moreover, the market has bore witness to the Green Wave locking horns with the likes of Kansas State and Oklahoma in back-to-back weeks and giving both teams a game despite suffering bitter losses.
After playing deep, physical teams in Kansas State and Oklahoma in consecutive weeks, the Green Wave will now see just how well they're holding up, as their marathon continues with a trip to Lafayette to face the Ragin? Cajuns before league games against South Florida and UAB. Jon Sumrall is very quickly finding out what he has on his roster and has seen his team hang around against heavyweights before running out of gas. The question now becomes whether they can replenish on the run. QB Darian Mensah made some mistakes due to a lack of protection but clearly has the goods to be the long-term answer for Tulane going forward, particularly if the line issues get worked out. This is a golden opportunity for Michael Desormeaux to secure a massive win over an in-state big boy they haven?t seen since the 2018 Cure Bowl.
Wins over Grambling and Kennesaw State by a combined margin of 74-20 means we don?t know much about the Cajuns? ability to pull off an upset in a game like this one, but veteran QB Ben Wooldridge is a veteran proven winner and gets the ball out quickly. Louisiana has turned the ball over only once and has dominated on the defensive end, but this game will provide a much better barometer of just how good this group can be.
Call it battle fatigue or disappointment from a series of unfortunate events but the Green Wave are certainly prone to enter this contest flat when we consider they are taking a step down in opposition and ruminating over what could have been in their last two weeks of action. The Cajuns meanwhile are looking to get back to a place they were at under former Head Coach Billy Napier where they were ranked and competing for conference hardware. Defeating a Group of Five power like Tulane would serve as a benchmark in achieving such progression but more importantly, this is a horrible situational spot for the small road favorite.
