Ohio +19½ over Kentucky
Kroger Field – Lexington, KY
Streaming: SEC Network
12:45 PM EST. The last time the Wildcats were on the field in Lexington last Saturday night, they were going muzzle to muzzle with the #1 team in the country and the most dominant club in recent years, the Georgia Bulldogs. As a 21½-point underdog, the ‘Cats were within a point of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in program history and the largest of magnitude this season, but they fell short in a 13-12 thriller that UK could have won as quickly as it lost. In what was billed as a tuneup game for the Dawgs before it goes on a bye and heads to Tuscaloosa to face off with Alabama, Kentucky nearly shocked the world and the betting market is responding to this with vehemence.
Since Big Blue opened as a 17½-point favorite, the inefficient market has pounded the ‘Cats to where they are now nearly spotting an additional field goal to the visitors. Furthermore, Kentucky has gone from a 21½-point pooch to a 20-point choice in one week, which is a 41.5-point swing. That, too, sets off red alerts on the overreaction radar. In addition to playing into the market inefficiencies by laying inflated points and also getting behind a team a week too late, this game is also a “sandwich game” for Mark Stoops and company, as they come in off the Georgia game and next week the Wildcats head off to Oxford, Mississippi with another showdown with a top-five undefeated SEC foe in Ole Miss.
Given how Kentucky fared against Georgia, there is a possibility that the Wildcats use this contest to get over the heartbreak of the near-upset and sleepwalk through this game, as it dusts itself off in preparation for the Rebels. We will urge you not to spot an enhanced tag to the guests under such circumstances.
Though a measly MAC team, Ohio did hang with Syracuse well into the third quarter when it kicked off its season against the Orange on August 31st and they will not shudder at the notion of playing in hostile road environments against Power Four opposition. The Bobcats will be coming to town with the same mindset as Kentucky did last week when Georgia visited and we like that proposition with inflated points in our back pocket.
