Wisconsin +16 over Alabama
Camp Randall Stadium - Madison, WI
Streaming: FOX
12:00 PM EST. Alabama comes into this one after a 42-16 win over South Florida and on the heels of a 63-0 Week 1 win over Western Kentucky, where the Crimson Tide were a -37½-point favorite. Perhaps more impressive was that the Tide went over the posted total of 60½ without any help from the Hilltoppers. While the Tide are scoring in bunches, the level of their competition is suspect, and they’ve had some trouble up front on the offensive line, allowing 13 QB pressures in two games. Run blocking has been a problem, too, as South Florida was able to stuff 42% of the Tide's 38 rushing attempts in Week 2.
Meanwhile, the Badgers were a -18½-point favorite over South Dakota but did not cover that number in a 27-13 win. In Week 1, Wisconsin was a -24½-point favorite over Western Michigan, and while the Badgers won, they did not cover that number, which now leaves them 0-2 Against the Spread (ATS) this season. While both of those games were closer than the oddsmakers predicted, Badgers coach Luke Fickell knows that the season “really” starts today against ‘Bama: "Not that the first two games weren't the start of the season, but we knew this was going to be the opportunity and point in time when we really, really got to see where we are and who we are." Today’s game is a big measuring test for Wisconsin, and the Badgers know it.
This is the first time the Tide have traveled to Madison in 96 years, and a raucous crowd is set to meet them in this nationally televised game: "You know, that hostile environment and taking it on, and knowing that it's kind of you vs. everyone there.” Those words from first-year ‘Bama coach Kalen DeBoer could not be truer, and it remains to be seen how his team performs in its first road game of this new era. Winning is one thing, but covering an inflated price on the road is a whole other ball game, and Madison is not the place to work out their kinks.
