Syracuse over Georgia Tech
JMA Wireless Dome – Syracuse, NY
Streaming: ACC Network
12:00 PM EST. One of our strategies is to buy low and sell high and this week we are presented with an opportunity to champion this philosophy. In the build-up to Week 0, we were buyers of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, whose stock was low when they were tasked with heading to the Emerald Isle to square off with the then #10 Florida State Seminoles. Coming in with a 7-6 mark in 2024 when they barely made a bowl, the Ramblin’ Wreck was well off the market’s radar, as expectations were menial in comparison to the Seminoles who were pegged as a virtual lock for the College Football Playoff.
The ‘Noles were spotting 10½-points to Tech at the time of kickoff. Georgia Tech would not only cover but win outright in a 24-21 thriller. In their follow-up against Georgia State in Atlanta in a potential letdown spot after such an enormous win, the Yellow Jackets would cruise past the Panthers in a 35-12 victory that saw Tech cover again as a 20½-point choice. Georgia Tech now sits unblemished on the year in both wins straight up and against the number and overall, with a #23 ranking and a five-game cover streak dating back to 2023.
Just like that, Georgia Tech’s stock is through the roof, which makes us instant sellers. If you do decide to get behind Tech, you are very late to their ticket cashing party. As the #23 ranked team in the country, oddsmakers made them a very appealing choice today and all we can do is warm you not to bite.
Meanwhile, unranked Syracuse enters with a depleted stock. You see, the Orange finished their 2023 season with a losing mark at 6-7, after they had the doors blown off of them by South Florida in the Boca Raton Bowl in a 45-0 shutout. ‘Cuse also saw long-standing Head Coach Dino Babers fired and completed their campaign 2-6 in the ACC. In the off-season, ‘Cuse brought in former Georgia Defensive Backs Coach Fran Brown as their Head Coach to replace Babers and Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord transferred in to highlight a highly-active transfer portal window. Brown, a disciple of Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart has cultivated the wherewithal to play winning football from his time in Athens and McCord has the experience of being a field general at an elite program gaining several starts in Columbus. With this comes tremendous upside for Syracuse and the market has not yet become adept to these possibilities. ‘Cuse defeated Ohio 38-22 in their season opener last week but failed to cover as a 17-point choice. As a result of recency bias extending back to 2023 and Syracuse’s maligned status overall in the ACC, the Orange come into this game off the radar. much like how Georgia Tech did only two weeks ago.
The market has taken notice of the Yellow Jackets, as they sit right atop the standings of the ACC but being priced like this on the road against an ACC opponent is a brand new badge of honor and might be taking the respect a bit too far. Syracuse’s bandwagon has plenty of room on it, which means there's opportunity here and we’re on it. Orange outright.
