Florida St -16½ over Boston College
Doak Campbell Stadium – Tallahassee, FL
Streaming: ESPN
7:30 PM EST. We often speak of media influence and overreactions skewing market perception and the Florida State Seminoles typify this principle to a T. In the build-up to their trip to Dublin, Ireland to square off with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 0, to kick off the college season on ESPN at noon with the entire football world taking it in, the top-10 ranked Seminoles were projected to have an outstanding year and were in fact, one of the favorites to win the ACC along with being a virtual lock to get into the College Football Playoff. The question was not whether or not Georgia Tech could cover the 10½-point spread, it was more how much Florida State would in fact win the game by. The Ramblin’ Wreck silenced all the noise when they not only came in under the number but won outright on a walk-off field goal. Tech led most of the way and was never in danger of not covering.
The aftermath of such a result didn’t bolster the stock of Georgia Tech who one could easily sum up by saying they are underrated. Georgia Tech had all the ingredients at its disposal to stage the upset, as they held the edges in continuity and emotional intangibles. However, the loss instead was an indictment on Florida State, which has imploded any stock that the Seminoles had previously in one week of football.
Florida State has been mocked by many of the same media outlets that were biggin’ them up a week prior. This effect has been trickled down into the betting markets. You see, when lines came out mid summer, the Seminoles were priced as a -21-point favorite and the price has since plummeted to where FSU is now spotting nearly a touchdown less to the visiting Eagles.
Then there is Boston College, who were within two points of upsetting Florida State last year in Chestnut Hill as a 27-point underdog. Under the helm of Head Coach Bill O’Brien, Boston College, combined with returning quarterback Thomas Castellanos, who spearheaded last year’s near-upset of Florida State, and now taking back 11 points less than last year’s team without home-field advantage. Funny how things have pivoted so quickly, huh?
The panel on College Game Day on ESPN were all salivating over FSU last week before its game with Georgia Tech. They had nothing to say about Tech until it was over. The Seminoles disappointed to a massive degree. Now, suppose you spotted double digits with FSU last week. There is very little chance that those that spotted the points last week are going to do the same thing this week. This truly embodies fading a team a week too late. The chance to do so was presented last week when FSU was being pimped out by every analyst and tout as unbeatable in ACC play. Now that the market is jumping off spotting double digits with the Seminoles, we’re jumping on because these points are deflated.

Arizona -145
