Georgia Tech +10½ over Florida State

12:00 PM EST. Florida State is not only ranked #10 in the land, but it very much has name-brand recognition and all through the off-season, the narrative surrounding this program was what could have been in 2023 and what will be in 2024 in response to last year’s harrowing conclusion.

We are of course referencing the Seminoles, who, in unprecedented fashion, were kept out of the College Football Playoff in 2023 despite going undefeated and winning the ACC with a third-string quarterback when they defeated a very good Louisville team. The committee snub of FSU landed the ‘Noles in the Orange Bowl where they were summarily destroyed by another team who suffered a similar fate, the Georgia Bulldogs. The 63-3 massacre in Miami seems to be ancient history, as the acquisition of DJ Uiagalelei via the transfer portal has allowed the masses to move on from the Jordan Travis tragedy and dawn new hope that the ‘Noles could be the class of the ACC and finally end up in the playoff. Such rhetoric often generates a whole lot of curb appeal against a Georgia Tech team who just won their first bowl game in five years and may not have even qualified for a bowl if Miami didn’t commit one of the greatest meltdowns in college football history.

However, the Seminoles only return 58% of their production while Georgia Tech offensively brings back a trident of talent in quarterback Haynes King, who is the epitome of dual-threat, 1000-yard rusher Jamal Haynes, and emerging wide receiver talent Erik Singleton who reminds many GT enthusiasts of a fellow called Demaryius Thomas. The point is, Georgia Tech will have continuity while FSU has to fit new pieces in, which gives the edge to the Yellow Jackets. When we combine the fact that both teams have to travel across the Atlantic Ocean to play this game, this contest has a bowl-game feel to it, especially for Tech who will come into this affair with absolutely nothing to lose.

We're not saying that State won't justify its top-10 ranking in the end, but we're not close to being sold yet, either. What we do know is that this team has seen heavy media attention and betting action this offseason, and coming into Week 1, the bandwagon is already full and all value is tapped. Even if you're buying that the Seminoles are legit and you end up being right, the best edges will probably not be in late August.
