Indiana -1½ over Miami (FL)

8:40 PM EST. If there is one thing this tournament does every year, it exposes Power Six conferences that are not up to snuff compared to the rest. This year, the once mighty ACC, home to Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, and so many others, has been exposed. Perhaps the first clue should have been when a team like the Tar Heels was not invited to the Big Dance. In fact, for the second time ever, the ACC sent just five of its 15 teams to the NCAAs. Those were the Blue Devils and Cavaliers mentioned above, as well as NC State, Miami, and Pitt. Only two of those five teams remain going into day two of Round 2, with Duke, UVA, and NC State already being bounced. We have Miami and Pitt from the ACC left playing today, and we are going to attack both with vigor.

We’re not going to get into a laundry list of reasons why the ACC was down this year, but we will focus on the ACC’s Adjusted Efficiency Margin (AdjEM) from our friends at KenPom. This season, for the first time ever, the ACC posted an AdjEM of under plus-10. That plus-8.02 rating the ACC posted ranked 7-of-32 Division I conferences, which was the first time since that data started to be collected in 2002 that the ACC was not ranked in the top six. It was also only the second time that the ACC ranked behind anyone other than one of their Power Six brothers (Big East, B1G, Big XII, Pac-12, and SEC). Only time will tell if the ACC has lost its luster long term, but at this moment, the ACC is wounded. We’re going in for the kill.
