Tennessee +3½ over Duke

2:40 PM EST. Duke is the hottest team in college basketball and, oh by the way, it is Duke - arguably the most well-known and respected program in the market. When the Dukies heat up, the market takes notice. The Blue Devils have pedigree, and they get the benefit of every doubt from the talking heads and the scumbag pick sellers.

We faded Duke on Thursday, and we are going to come right back and fade the Blue Devils today, despite ripping up our tickets. “Sticking with it” is one of the many sports wagering strategies that we preach about because it is one of the hardest things to do. The market has the propensity to overreact to whatever it just saw. As for Duke, it’s 10 straight wins, including wrapping up last weekend's ACC championship tournament with a double-digit win over Virginia as a 3-point favorite. That was the fifth game in a row that the Dukies sent their backers to the pay window. The Blue Devils were a 5½-point favorite over Oral Roberts in Round 1 and covered easily, 74-51.

Without sounding too obvious, Tennessee is not Oral Roberts. However, the Volunteers are only being spotted one less possession than the Golden Eagles were on Thursday. Like so many of the favorites on day one, the Vols had their hands full. UL Lafayette went shot for shot with Tennessee, dropping that game by just three points when the Vols were favored by 11½.

To us, this number is a head-scratcher. It looks too easy. Duke is the most recognizable program in the country and now they are the hottest team in the country. Duke crushed it on day one, and flipped the script on the traditional 5/12 upsetting the market and the media love. Meanwhile, the Vols barely beat a no-name program. Duke is going to be the biggest liability for the books today, and we want to be on the same side as the house.
