La Salle +7 over Duquesne

7:30 PM EST. La Salle played yesterday as the #11 seed and knocked off #14 Rhode Island (73-56) in what was a nice warm-up for today, as the Explorers now get #6 Duquesne, who has no business spotting a price like this in its current form. However, all anyone is talking about is that La Salle snapped a five-game losing streak yesterday that saw the Explorers go just 1-4 Against the Spread (ATS), as they tumbled into this Atlantic 10 tournament.

It's really hard to cover a significant number in these closely contested, win-or-go-home games, and it becomes even harder when one is not playing well. Seriously, what has Duquesne done to get this much respect other than the inflated seeding beside their name? Not only do the Dukes shoulder all the pressure as the higher seed, but they are also expected to win by a margin. Those lofty expectations are not to be taken lightly. For the record, the Dukes haven't covered a number in three games, and they've been sitting idle since Saturday.

There is a perception in the media and the market that these lower seeds are at a disadvantage because they are playing their second game in as many days. We could not disagree more. The tournament mindset is so much different than the regular season, and it's really difficult to "flip the switch" and turn on the good play when one has not been playing well. That's the Dukes. The Explorers are playing with house money and they cannot wait to get back on the court today. We'll gladly take the inflated points, but do not be shocked if La Salle keeps the good times rolling.
