Texas A&M -1 over Alabama

12:00 PM EST. This is strictly situational, as we question the motivation of the Tide, not to mention all the other intangibles that surround them. Before we elaborate on the difficult spot Alabama is in, we’ll note that the Aggies are a great team (ranked #24 in the country) that figures to be the more motivated team. They are also 14-1 at home this season.

As for the Tide, well, they clinched the SEC title when they rallied from 17 down last game to beat one of its biggest rivals, Auburn in OT. That was the Tide’s second OT win in their last four games, as they beat a weak South Carolina team in OT on Feb 22. Alabama is ranked #2 in the country and have won four straight but we’re seeing cracks and now they’re in this massive letdown spot with distractions galore.

Alabama’s four game winning streak could have easily been a three-game losing streak with those two aforementioned OT wins and a three point win at home versus Arkansas in between. Alabama has nothing left to do after clinching and finishing off what had to be an emotionally draining week.

In case you are not aware, this is what the Tide are dealing with:

Early on the morning of Jan. 15, Jamea Jonae HHarris was shot and killed inside a vehicle after what police called “a minor altercation” near the University of Alabama campus. In the wake of this tragedy, Alabama must manage a matter that would be difficult even under normal circumstances. That its men’s basketball team is in the midst of a historic season has magnified every development and amplified every misjudgment — and there have been many. In less than 10 days, Alabama will likely be installed as a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Alabama will pursue a national championship under a dark cloud.

Alabama junior reserve forward Darius Miles, 21, was charged with capital murder for allegedly giving his gun to his friend, Michael Davis, 20, who allegedly used it to kill Harris, 23. We now know, via police testimony, that two other Alabama players, freshmen Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley, were present that night, and that Miller drove the car that brought Miles’ gun to the scene. While Miles was dismissed from the team and university the day of his arrest, Alabama has had multiple opportunities to suspend the other players but chose not to. They’ll now play their final game of the year.
