UConn -11 over Seton Hall

12:00 PM EST. The Pirates come into this game with some momentum after a 76-68 win over Georgetown, but forgive us if we cannot get that excited about a W over the last-place Hoyas. On the season, Seton Hall is 16-11, and 9-7 in Big East play, which is going to make the double digits on offer here look damn appealing. That significant pile of points looks like a gift for a Pirates' side that has already beaten the Huskies this season. That was a 67-66 decision in Newark in the middle of January.

The Huskies have tumbled some, but they are still hanging on to their #20 ranking in the AP poll. The Coaches have been more critical of UConn, as it sits just #23 on that poll. A 56-53 loss to Creighton last time out may help to send the Huskies tumbling out of the Top-25 but oddsmakers do not care. They hung a big number here that looks like fool's gold to us.

It might look like a tall undertaking, but the Huskies are not unaccustomed to blowing teams out. In recent games, UConn waffled Marquette, 87-72, Depaul, 90-76, and Butler, 86-56. Despite hovering in the 20s in the rankings, the Huskies are so much better than that, with the underlying numbers backing up that claim. In Adjusted Efficiency Margin, which is a truer reflection of the quality of these programs, UConn ranks fifth, right behind Tennesee, UCLA, Alabama, and Houston. Those all all potential #1 seeds in the upcoming tournament but UConn is not getting the same respect.

We're aware of the low total here. All the experts are calling this a defensive battle and we agree that's exactly what it looks like. Covering this number in a defensive battle is challenging to be sure but trust us when we suggest that oddsmakers are aware of the low posted total. tehy set it. The difference is that Seton Hall cannot score against great defenses while UConn can.
