Detroit Mercy -4 over Oakland

7:00 PM EST. Oakland has pedigree as a perennial Horizon League contender, but the Golden Grizzlies are not of their usual quality this season despite having high expectations. If you look at Oakland’s schedule, you will see some Power Six teams, but the Grizz lost by 29 to Syracuse, 20 to Boise State and 13 to Michigan State. The Grizz have gone 6-1 over their last seven games, with their last contest being an 83-77 outlasting of the dreadful IUPUI Jaguars last Thursday night in overtime. Despite feasting on its conference brothers to pad its win total, Oakland still ranks just 274th out of 363 graded Division I programs. We’d also like to point out that three of the Golden Grizzlies’ Horizon wins were by four points or less, while another was that OT win at IUPUI. Oakland is a bounce or two or three away from being just as dreadful as it was when the Grizz went 2-11 to start the season. Oakland couldn’t hang with the big boys and it can barely keep pace with the teams in the Horizon.

The Titans of Detroit Mercy will have the best player on the court, with Antoine Davis, who potted 42 points against the Jaguars on Saturday. Despite their 8-12 record, the Titans are a tough team that plays hard, as indicated by their conference-leading 11.2 Offensive Rebounds Per Game. One of the big knocks on Mike Davis’ team was that their size would limit their ability to hit the offensive glass. The Titans took that criticism and made a point to be the best they could be in that department. That shows character and discipline.

We backed the Titans in their 12-point win at IUPUI on Saturday, but failed to cash our tickets because they were a 13½-point favorite. However, if we were willing to lay that kind of lumber against the Jaguars, you can trust that we’ll be coming right back here today with the Titans spotting a deflated price to the Golden Grizzlies, who aren’t that much better than the Jaguars, if at all. That’s called “sticking with it” and playing the value. The Titans are being disrespected on their home court tonight.
