North Texas -2 over FAU

8:00 PM EST. This game has been circled on our calendars for about 5 weeks and we couldn’t be happier about the way it is set up. First up is the Owls of Florida Atlantic, a team that is incorrectly ranked as the #41st best team in the country. FAU is ranked #41 because they are in first place in the C-USA but more importantly because they are 11-1. We live in a culture that emphasizes winning and the media and market eats it up. It is for that reason that the Owls are getting far too much respect here.

Florida Atlantic has beaten up on one marshmallow after another. They have played the 263rd ranked Strength of Schedule (SOS) in America. FAU’s only loss this year came against the only decent team they played and they lost that game to Ole Miss by 13 points. Five of FAU’s last six games have been at home. Last game out, the Owls were favored by 14½ over Northern Kentucky and they won by 15. We cannot overstate how misleading a score that was. NKU was down by a lousy six points with 4:54 remaining and would score two more points the rest of the way in a 67-52 final. FAU would cover by a half point and we felt like puking blood, as we had NKU that day and vowed we would be back for more.

North Texas is ranked #54 in the country but trust us when we strongly suggest that when it all shakes out, UNT will be ranked higher than FAU. The Mean Green’s non-conference SOS ranks 105th in the country, which is 158 positions better than the Owls SOS. North Texas beat Grand Canyon and UMass. Its two losses this year were to two great teams in UNC Wilmington and #18 Saint Mary’s. The Mean Green are more battle tested, they’re not imposters and they’re at home. Be wise my friends, and don’t buy the hype on the Owls, as it is now time to sell this 11-1 team before their stock plummets.
