10:00 PM EST. When one zigs, ye zags. Yes, we are coining the Old English version of our mantra but the saying applies here. On Opening Night, much of the market was swarming the Timberwolves who came into their game with the Los Angeles Lakers as an initial underdog before the droves of T-Wolves money rendered Minnesota to be the chalk. Minnesota was one of the most talked about teams in the latter stages of the 2023-2024 season due to their incredulous run deep into the postseason before they ran out of gas and exited the playoffs in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

On the flipside, the hosting Lakers were indeed an afterthought in the spot as the biggest headline surrounding LA was the debut of J.J Redick as Head Coach and LeBron James’ son Bronny who would be making his first NBA appearance alongside his pops. Despite the heavy leaning on Minnesota, Los Angeles would defeat the Timberwolves 110-103. It is worth noting that Timberwolves backers saw Minnesota down 19 at one point, which absolutely leaves a bitter taste in one’s mouth.

Prognostications for the Kings’ ceiling have elevated with the addition of one DeMar DeRozan. In the 2022-2023 season, the Kings emerged in the postseason for the first time in 17 years, taking Golden State the distance before losing in the first round in seven games. Sacramento would have a chance to go back to the postseason last year but summarily lost in the first round of the Play-In Tournament to New Orleans. However, with the addition of DeRozan to complement a duo of former All-Stars in De-Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, there is much enthusiasm that not only can Sacramento get back to the playoffs but perhaps make a deep run like Minnesota did last year. As a result of these narratives combined with Minnesota’s recent blunder on Opening Night before a national audience, the market’s perception is heavily swayed to overreact towards one result and this is where we step in.
