N.Y. Knicks +6 over Boston

7:30 PM EST. The story here is simple: it’s celebration night for the NBA Champion Celtics, as they will raise their banner in front of the rival New York Knicks, who were bounced from the playoffs in the Conference Semifinals by Indiana. We’ll start with the C’s, who have nothing to prove here and really don’t need to show up until the All-Star break if they don’t want to. There could be a hangover of epic proportions, as the party in Boston has not stopped after the Celtics cashed in an NBA record 18th championship. If the C’s have that killer instinct to start the season, so be it, but their work is done, and they need the grind of a long season like a hole in their heads. The festivities tonight are just another continuation of the party, and the Garden is going to be raucous. However, with all the pomp and circumstance also come many outside distractions and variables that cannot be accounted for.

Meanwhile, this is a business trip for the Knicks, who are going to be chomping at the bit after waiting for the Celtics to take their grand march and pat each other on the backs for a job well done. The C’s have eaten, they’re full, but the Knicks have got to be starving after an early exit and a longer-than-expected summer. Market perception here is that the Knicks are nothing more than fodder for the Celtics on their big night, as the line movement reflects that. The Celtics are taking the majority of the action, as this line opened with the Knicks taking back +4½ points, but now that number has crept up to what you see posted and is probably going to continue to go up in advance of tip-off. It might be worth waiting until closer to game time to get the best number, but we are content to take the inflated points that are currently being offered and hope to see you at the pay window.
