Sacramento -2 over New York

9:10 PM EST. If the Kings played in the Big Apple, they would be the Kings of the five boroughs, but alas, when you operate out of sleepy Northern California where there is little attention given to them by the mainstream media, that is why this game tonight, which will be aired nationally on TNT, is such a big deal. The Kings are not the Knicks, Warriors, Celtics, or Lakers. They do not get to host a regular season game of this magnitude very often. That is to say, it’s a big deal for the franchise and the fans. The hometown Kings will not be flat in this prime time showcase.

Prior to their loss to the Hornets last time out, the Knicks were the hottest team in the NBA, having won 11-of-12 and nine straight, including an 8-0-1 record Against the Spread (ATS) in those nine consecutive victories. Losing to Charlotte definitely is not a good look, but that loss has been easily explained and swept under the rug by the talking heads. The Knicks didn’t take the Hornets seriously. New York knew they were headed out West and already had one foot on the plane. Those observations may be true, but they do not lend any credibility to the Knicks as a serious contender. With back-to-back games in Los Angeles after this one tonight, who is to say the Knicks won’t be overlooking lil ol’ sleepy Sacramento here?

The Kings opened up as a two possession favorite in this game, but that is now down to just one, as the market has taken a stand in this game. However, the oddsmakers got it right when they made Sac-Town the chalk, especially knowing the extra attention this high profile game was going to get. The prudent play here is to swallow this deflated price and back the Kings, who might not have a bigger home game until the playoffs begin. It’s definitely the last one that will be broadcast nationally on TNT with Chuck, Shaq, and friends in the studio. This might be the last time the media and the market disrespect the Kings. We’ll take advantage of the discount while it lasts.
