Brooklyn +7½ over New York

7:40 PM EST. There might not be a hotter team in the market right now than the New York Knickerbockers. The Knicks have won six straight while going 5-0-1 Against the Spread (ATS) over that time. In their three games since the All-Star break, the Knicks are 3-0 both straight up and ATS. New York would easily cover those numbers against the Wizards by seven points, the Pelicans by 18 points, and the Celtics by 17 points last time out. That 109-94 waffling of the C’s last time out is going to resonate. It’s a statement win against the top team in the NBA, oh, and their biggest rivals.

Hard as they tried, the Nets could not become the kings of New York, as their attempt at the “big three” formula with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden went up in smoke. It’s been called “throwing in the towel” on the season, but the three trades (two this season) that send those three malcontents out of Brooklyn were a cleansing for the Nets. Not only are the cupboards stocked with picks, but the solid core of players the Nets still have can finally breathe out on the court without having to service whichever of those three doofuses decided to suit up for any given game. There are going to be growing pains, but don’t discount the talent still here.

The Nets are 0-3 since the break, 1-5 over their last six, and 3-7 over their last 10. For some perspective of just how quickly values change in the market, we are going to focus on the Nets 124-106 loss at Madison Square Garden the day before Valentine’s Day. That night, the Nets were a 3-point pooch. Now, barely two weeks later, the Knicks are spotting the price you see here. We can’t predict the X’s and O’s, but we can spot an overreaction. We’ll scoop up these inflated points, but don’t be surprised if we don’t need ‘em.
