Detroit +7 over Charlotte

7:10 PM EST. These two teams are headed straight to the draft lottery, but there is much ball to be played between now and then. Let’s start with the hometown Hornets, who are on a modest run of four straight wins, which is their longest stretch of wins this season. In fact, Charlotte has doubled their previous high of two wins in a row, so it’s not out of line to suggest the Hornet's stock is at a season-high. Charlotte won two straight going into the break, and they’ve kept it rolling with two wins since. We’re not going to take anything away from the Hornets, but there is a big difference between being an underdog to Minnesota (+7) and Atlanta (+6½) the last two games and now spotting points in a similar range to anybody in this league.

The Pistons have been the mirror opposite of the Hornets, which helps to set up this “buy low, sell high” situation, having lost four games in a row, two before the break (Toronto and Boston), and two since the break (Orlando and Toronto). For some perspective on just how inflated these points really are, Detroit was an 8-point underdog to a 30-win Raptors side on Saturday night and 11½ to the first-place Celtics two weeks ago in Boston. Hell, Charlotte played Boston five days before the Pistons and were an 11½-point pooch, too. Moreover, the Pistons were just a 1½-point underdog in Charlotte at the beginning of the month. All of that adds up to this being a significant pile of points for the Pistons to be taking back against a weak host who is overvalued and overpriced.
