Boston -1½ over Philadelphia

8:40 PM EST. The 76ers were one of the hottest teams in the NBA heading into the All-Star break, having won 13-of-16, and they picked up right where they left off in their return to the court on Thursday night against Memphis. That 110-105 win against one of the top teams in the West is a good one on paper, but if you tuned into that game, you may have tuned out quickly, as the Sixers were down by as many as 17. A comeback of that proportion does not come without a ton of effort and a few breaks along the way. However, all an unsuspecting market will see is that Philadelphia won and covered again.

Meanwhile, the Celtics limped into the break with a laundry list of injuries to some of their biggest names. The C’s were back at full force with Jayson Tatum and friends in the lineup in Indianapolis, but the reunion was a disappointment. as Boston failed to cover as a 7½-point favorite in a narrow 142-138 overtime win versus the Pacers. The Celtics were never in a position to pull away, as the Pacers went shot-for-shot with the top team in the league.

We’re not going to put too much stock in that game because we’ve seen time and again this season that when a team welcomes a star player or players back into the lineup, there is an adjustment for everyone. We’ll also note that the Celtics knew they had this huge prime-time game on deck. Full offense to the Pacers—that game on Thursday night was a glorified practice. The real game is tonight, and we now get the superior Celtics at a steep discount. That’s a bet.
