Golden State -8½ over San Antonio

7:40 PM EST. This is the biggest game in San Antonio since the championship years. It’s also going to be the most attended game in NBA history, as the Spurs, who are celebrating their 50th year in San Antonio, will return to the Alamo (dome that is) for the first game in their old barn in over 20 years.

With nearly 65,000 expected to be on hand, the fine citizens of San Antonio and area were freaking the f**k out over the impending traffic disaster coming tonight. It was literally front page news. It’s refreshing to know that some cowtowns never change, and we all worry about the same things, “how long is it going to take me to get there?”, “how much is it to park?” and “how long is it going to take me to get the f**k outta there?” when considering whether or not to attend a major event in our city.

So obviously the Spurs have been promoting the hell out of this showcase and with that comes many distractions. Meanwhile, the Warriors ought to be in a foul mood after losing three straight games. Their standing in the market has taken a hit as well, as the Dubs (still Stephen Curry-less) were favored in each of those games against relatively weak competition (-12½ over the Suns, -6½ over the Magic, and -6½ over Detroit).

While we find the Warriors a little banged up with some mud on their shoes, we also find them in a pretty sweet spot to play the role of the spoiler in what is just another road game for a team that has seen and done it all. Do you think this backdrop, the pomp & circumstance, is a big deal to the Warriors? Steve Kerr will tell you it is, but c’mon, these guys are looking to take out their frustrations on somebody, and this situation and this distracted host present such an opportunity. Swallow the points.
