The Nets have been an absolute smoke show of late ripping off wins in 14 of 15 games, including 10 in a row, with their latest victory coming in a 108-107 edging of Atlanta on Wednesday night. As impressive as the wins have been, there have been cracks in their armor. Despite the positive result against the Hawks, the Nets were forced to come back from down 15 points and needed a missed free throw from Dejounte Murray to get the one-point win. Murray also missed the game winner as time expired. It’s also worth noting the Hawks were without leading rebounder Clint Capela, De'Andre Hunter, and superstar Trae Young.

Hosting a game on New Year’s Eve is a big deal, especially for a team like Charlotte, who won’t be playing on Christmas Day any time soon. The Hornets have just 10 wins this season, which matches the Nets current win streak, but they have been playing much better ball of late. Over their last three games, Charlotte has posted a top-5 ranking in Defensive Efficiency, which is up significantly from their normal bottom five status in that department. We are much more interested in the Hornets recent form, as those games played earlier in the season do not matter as much as those played of late. Those early games also didn’t feature rookie center Mark Williams, who spent most of the year in the G-League, but is finding his game in the pros. It’s also some taken time for LaMelo Ball to develop, but he was just one assist shy of a double-double last time out.

Other than the “buy low, sell high” elements in this game, situationally speaking, we catch the Nets playing their final game of a three game road trip, and if you think they are spending the night in sleepy Charlotte, North Carolina on the biggest party night of the season when they live and play in the hippest burrow in NYC, you have got to be kidding yourself. The Nets cannot wait to get the hell out of this cow town and back to the big city. If the Nets are able to stay focused and bring their A-game here, so be it, but do not be surprised if the party has already started and the Nets already have one foot on the team jet.
