Mavericks +4½ -106 over Boston

7:40 PM EST. The Celtics have been one of the hottest teams in the leagues. Boston won nine in a row before finally losing to Chicago on Monday night. Winning always gains one attention, but there are cracks in the C’s armor, as they are just the 23rd ranked team in defensive efficiency, by contrast, the Mavericks are fifth. That said, it is Dallas that we are most interested in here.

The Mavericks are on an incredibly bad run against the spread, as they’ve cashed just one ticket in their last 10 games. Across that span of futility, Dallas has been favored in ranges from 4-to-10½-points, with that largest margin coming in their last game to an undermanned Denver side on Sunday night. Dallas lost that contest outright, 98-97. Despite the Mavericks' inability to cover, the oddsmakers have continued to make them a favorite night after night, but not tonight. That’s a 14-point swing from one game to the next. Unless the Mavs are playing the 1992 Dream Team, that swing is unjustified. Now that Dallas has finally moved to the role of the underdog, one figures there is value to be had, regardless of competition. We’ll take the points.
