L.A. Clippers -3 over Utah

9:30 PM EST. The Jazz are the most surprising team in the NBA this season, posting a 12-6 record after unloading what most considered their “best” players in major off-season trades. Instead, the new look Jazz are turning heads, as they are 12-6 both straight up and against the spread. Utah is coming off back-to-back outright wins as a small pooch in Phoenix (1) and Portland (4½). Tonight Utah opened at the same price they closed versus the Trail Blazers, +4½.

There is some irony in that, as the Blazers were short handed in that game and on the news that Paul George was “questionable” tonight, the injury chasers jumped on the Jazz and they are driving this line down. That presents the opportunity to buy low on the Clip Show.

In a next-man-up league like the NBA, most benches are loaded with guys that are begging for minutes. The Clippers might have one of the best lists of reserves in the league. L.A. sports the 8th ranked squad in efficient field goal rate and it does something that most teams rarely bother with—play defense (ranked 2nd in defensive efficiency). For comparison’s sake, the Jazz are sixth and 13th in those rankings, respectively. We don’t care if George dresses, in fact, we hope it’s announced he’s out and we get an even better price closer to tip-off. That said, we’re officially in on the Clippers at -3 -102.
