The Tigers came into the season with low expectations and acted as sellers at the trade deadline, moving star pitcher Jack Flaherty and other veterans to prepare for yet another disappointing October. But what happened next was classic: Detroit went on a tear in the second half and clinched their first postseason berth in a decade with a 4-1 win over the White Sox last night. With no starter named for today and this being a day game following a night of champagne-fueled celebration, it's hard to imagine the Tigers showing up in full force.

The White Sox, meanwhile, set their own record for futility, surpassing the 1962 Mets with 121 losses. Yet this team hasn’t packed it in, winning three straight prior to last night's loss. Today, they’ll send rookie Sean Burke (RHP - CWS) to the mound for his third start of the season. In 14 IP so far, Burke has posted 16 strikeouts to just 4 walks, with an elite swing-and-miss rate of 14.2%. His fastball, which can reach 97 MPH, has impressive carry and arm-side run. Add in his upper-70s knuckle-curve, low-80s slider, and low-80s changeup, and you’ve got a well-rounded arsenal capable of getting strikes on all four pitches. Burke, at 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, is a physically imposing presence, and his delivery is clean with no red flags. Given the price and the situation, this play has strong potential. Let’s go!
