Atlanta -1½ over Kansas City

7:20 PM EST. Seth Lugo (RHP - KAN) and the Royals are back in the playoffs despite losing 3-0 last night, as a loss by the Twins allowed K.C. to sneak in through the back door. If you thought there would be a subdued celebration given the loss, think again. The Royals were in full party mode—locker room tarped, goggles on, and Bud Lights flowing. It was an emotional scene, especially for a team that suffered through 106 losses last season. As for Lugo, he’s been hit hard recently, including his last start against the Giants, where 10 of their 20 balls in play were struck at 95 MPH or higher.

On the other side, the Braves still have work to do, battling with Arizona and the Mets for the final two Wild Card spots. To try and punch their postseason ticket, Atlanta will send Reynaldo López (RHP - ATL) to the mound. López is coming off the IL after dealing with shoulder inflammation but is said to be fully healthy and won't have any pitch count restrictions today. While López's return is encouraging, this play is more about fading a Royals team whose playoff berth is secured and whose emotional hangover from last night's celebrations may spill onto the field.
