The Phillies can clinch the NL East tonight, which puts the Cubs in the role of spoiler for at least one more day, as Philadelphia will go with one time “ace” Aaron Nola (RHP - PHI) who has not pitched like an ace this season. Nola is 12-8, with an xERA over 4.00 and he’s posted his lowest strikeout rate of his career as well as his lowest swing & miss rate since 2016. Over his last three turns, Nola has an ERA of 6.19 (xERA is 5.54) while going 0-2 across those 16 IP.

Nate Pearson (RHP - CHI) probably won’t pitch deep into this game, as he’s not pitched more than two innings in any appearance since July. It’s expected that the recently activated Hayden Wesneski (RHP - CHI) is likely to step in and fill the bulk relief role when the time comes for Pearson to exit. Werenski has 62 Ks in 63.2 IP with a 44.8% groundball rate. Regardless of who pitches when, the Cubs are taking back an inflated price today and we’re not going to pass them up.
