7:40 PM EST. Reid Detmers (LHP - LAA) will make his second start in the bigs after he was sent down for a stint in the minors. Last Monday, in his first start since June 1, Detmers gave up two runs on three hits while striking out 10 Dodgers and throwing 68 of his 100 pitches for strikes. On the surface, Detmers' 5.87 ERA is ugly, but his xERA is a much more respectable 3.72, which includes the stretch that got him sent down to Salt Lake in June. Detmers has solid underlying strikeout metrics too, with a 62.0% first-pitch strike rate, 13.5% swing &miss rate (it was 15% vs. the Dodgers), and a 29.8% called & swinging strike rate, while posting 80 Ks in 69 IP.

David Festa (RHP - MIN) is comparable to Detmers in many metrics, but since the beginning of August, he and the Twins are 0-4 over his last five starts, with Festa failing to make it past the fourth in two of those turns. Furthermore, the Twins' lineup is hitting just .192 vs. LHP in September and .222 vs. LHP since the beginning of August, and they are spotting an inflated price today. Attack.
