Toronto over Philadelphia
3:07 PM EST. Bowden Francis (RHP - TOR) is dealing for the Blue Jays these days, as he’s allowed just four earned runs over his last 34 innings pitched, which stretches across five starts. He has four wins in that time, racking up 39 K’s and a 30.2% K-BB rate. Last Thursday versus the Red Sox, Francis pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, striking out five and walking no one. He had a no-hitter working into the sixth for the second game in a row (he took a no-hit bid into the ninth on August 24) and he’s now pitched at least seven innings of one-run ball in four straight turns (29 IP) with a 32/3 K/BB rate.
Cristopher Sánchez (LHP - PHI) was one of the hottest pitchers in MLB heading into the break, but he has cooled down in the second half. Last Thursday against the Braves, Sánchez gave up four runs on seven hits in 5.2 IP and did not factor into the decision. Since the All-Star Game, Sánchez is 2-5 in his eight starts with just 37 Ks in 48.2 IP. Today he faces a Blue Jays team that is the second most disciplined in the bigs vs. LHP.
