Detroit -1½ over L.A. Angels

6:40 PM EST. Johnny Cueto (RHP - LAA) is going to get another start for the Angels because they need a body to fill innings to close out another disappointing season. Cueto looked like he was 68 and not 38 in that turn last Tuesday versus the Tigers, as he struck out one with just three swinging strikes in 84 pitches. Cueto should not be in the bigs, and until he is either sent down or shut down, he’s as good a fade target as can be found.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are looking to the future with Brant Hurter (LHP - DET) taking the bump for his first official start. However, he has been making regular appearances for Detroit since his call-up from Triple-A Toledo on August 4. Hurter has been solid in his role as a lefty bulk reliever, posting a 2.61 xERA with a 0.79 WHIP and a 17/1 K/BB ratio in 17.2 IP. He has gone at least three innings in every appearance, and two of those bulk relief roles lasted at least five IP. Hurter is totally under the radar, but the Tigers like him, and he’s going to be given the chance to start down the stretch. We’re here for it.
