8:10 PM EST. Ty Madden (RHP - DET) makes his big league debut after a rough start to the year that began in Double-A and included the birth of his first child. A move to Triple-A left a lot to be desired with some truly awful outings along the way, but Madden now finds himself in the bigs, and despite the awful numbers at Triple-A Toledo (7.97 ERA, 1.772 WHIP), the Tigers are excited about him. We’ll note those ugly numbers were the result of four true disasters where he gave up nine runs, seven runs (twice), and six runs. There’s no sugar-coating those starts, but there is promise here, as Madden has 37 Ks and just 5 BBs over his last 24 IP. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch summed it up best: “The scoreboard numbers don’t do him justice. When you are striking out 30-plus percent and walking close to 5%, that’s a pretty good indication of controlling the strike zone and being ready for the next challenge.”

Meanwhile, the White Sox will send Davis Martin (RHP - CHI) out after he took the loss versus the Giants last Tuesday, where he gave up three runs over 4.1 IP. Those runs were on the low end after a lucky third inning in which Martin gave up back-to-back walks but got Michael Conforto to pop up and then got Matt Chapman to hit into a double play. Martin then gave up walks in the fifth inning, and that was the fourth time in five starts in which he issued multiple free passes. The White Sox win once a week or so, and we’re willing to wager today won’t be one of those days.
