We’re not going to put lipstick on a pig like Michael Lorenzen (RHP - KC), but we’ll note that he’s coming off a two-hit effort in which he allowed just one run and struck out three in 5.2 innings, but he walked three, too. That said, this play is not about Lorenzen, so we’ll turn our attention to Johnny Cueto (RHP - LAA).

The Angels called up Johnny Cueto (RHP - CIN) for this start, presumably because they do not have anyone else capable of pitching, because the dude is shot. Last year, Cueto went 1-4 with a 6.02 ERA in 52 IP at MIA. There was a time that Cueto was one of the best in the game, but Father Time is undefeated. It’s been a long descent, as Cueto’s on a string of seven straight 4.80+ xERA campaigns and has averaged 86 IP per year during that period. It's a fool's errand to expect an outlier like 2022, especially as he approaches 40.
