Cincinnati -1½ over Kansas City
6:40 PM EST. Nick Martinez’s (RHP - CIN) move to the rotation has been a solid one thus far, and while the sample size is small, there is a lot to like. He was a solid reliever with underlying numbers to back it up. In his two starts (12 IP), Martinez has yet to give up a run and has posted a 12/0 K/BB ratio during that time. Of course, that won’t last, but his xERA on the season is a solid 2.91, and he’s got 75 Ks to just 10 BBs in his 91 IP.
We are here to fade Michael Lorenzen (RHP - KC), who is coming off a no-decision last Friday in which he gave up three runs on six hits with two walks in just 4.1 innings, striking out three. Lorenzen threw 88 pitches in that limited time on the mound and has failed to go five innings in two of his last three turns while also not posting a quality start since June 18. In that time, he has an inflated xERA of 5.87 with 33 Ks to 22 BBs in 39.2 IP. With this game at Great American, we have no problem laying the -1½ and taking the Reds on the run line.
