6:35 PM EST. Jake Irvin (RHP - WAS) is not our focus here, but we’ll note that we’ve backed him many times this year because he’s a solid arm that is often taking back inflated prices. The Nationals have a couple of young arms that have come out of the woodwork and pitched well this year, with Mitchell Parker being the other. With both of them and former top pitching prospects MacKenzie Gore and Josiah Gray, the future could be bright in The District. Irvin was getting some talk about an All-Star appearance, but since then, he’s regressed slightly. However, he has gone at least five innings in four straight starts, and he’s the superior starter here, no doubt.

That brings us to Trevor Rogers (LHP - BAL), who the Orioles will continue to trot out to the bump until either his arm falls off or they get healthy enough to replace him. Rogers was lucky to walk away with a no-decision last Wednesday against the Blue Jays after he gave up two earned runs on seven hits with two walks over 5 IP, striking out just two. On the surface, it doesn’t look like a disaster, but a deeper dive shows that he threw 94 pitches, with 59 going for strikes, while he gave up seven hard-hit balls. The Jays also put at least one runner on base in every inning, and Rogers gave up a ton of contact. Rogers has failed to last longer than 5.2 IP in his last seven starts, and he’s not logged a quality start in that time. The fade continues.
