7:15 PM EST. Shane Baz (RHP - TAM) tossed 5.1 innings of two-run ball versus the Astros last Friday, where he struck out five and walked just one. It was a very nice start for Baz, who generated 15 swinging strikes on 80 pitches, including a whopping 29 on just his slider. Baz is on the verge of a major breakout since his return from Tommy John surgery, and he presents us with some tremendous value today as the underdog.

Kyle Gibson (RHP - STL) has been struggling, as he owns a 5.40 ERA and a bloated 1.58 WHIP since June 26. Tonight, Gibson is starting at Busch Stadium, where he brings a 4.92 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP into this start vs. the Rays. Gibson was pretty good in the first half of the season, but he’s built a reputation for second-half fades, as he’s posted post-All-Star break OPS of at least .770 over the last four years. In his last start, Gibson did not factor into the decision, where he gave up four runs on five hits over 7 IP last Saturday against the Cubs. Gibson has now yielded three earned runs or more in seven of his past 10 starts and has not won a game since July 7. Woof.
