9:40 PM EST. We’re not going to slam George Kirby (RHP - SEA), as he is a fine pitcher who is having a fine season. Kirby has recorded nine straight quality starts in which he has gone at least six innings; however, despite that quality, he is just 3-2 because the Mariners struggle to score runs. In his last start, Kirby did not factor into the decision after giving up two runs on seven hits over 5.1 IP. That said, he has struggled vs. the Tigers of late, going 1-2 with an ERA of 6.43. As for the M’s bats, they are dead last in average vs. LHP, 27th in on-base percentage, and 27th in slugging.

Tarik Skubal (LHP - DET) had the rare off night last Friday when he took the loss against the Royals after allowing five runs on seven hits over 6.1 IP. Even on a bad night, Skubal still racked up 8 Ks and fooled the Royals into 12 whiffs on 95 pitches, posting a solid called and swinging strike (CSW) rate of 27%. That one poor turn did little to stain Skubal’s pristine numbers this season, as he sports a 2.64 xERA, 0.95 WHIP, 10.69 K/9 strikeout rate, 1.72 BB/9 walk rate, and a 14.5% swing-and-miss rate. Skubal is also the AL leader in strikeouts, and as an underdog, he’s a tremendous value against the M’s and their puny sticks.
