The Phillies will go with Cristopher Sanchez (LHP - PHI), who is coming off a loss to the Yankees last Wednesday, where he allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings; however, he did strike out seven. While the stat line is not great, Sanchez did not pitch that badly vs. the Yanks, as most of the damage came on a DJ LeMahieu grand salami in the second. It was the third straight loss for Sanchez, which has his stock down a touch, but he still sports a solid WHIP (1.28) and 2.75 xERA to his also solid 3.36 surface number.

2024 has become a year in which we have seen a changing of the guard at the top of the SP mountain with the likes of Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer hitting the wall after years of hard miles on their arms. Well, now you can add Clayton Kershaw (LHP - LAD) to that list, as the dude looks wasted out there on the mound through two starts since returning from a lengthy injury. In his second turn last Wednesday, Kershaw allowed seven runs on six hits and failed to rack up a punchout in 3.2 IP. There is no sugar-coating that effort, as Kershaw was just plain bad. His fastball came in under 90 MPH, and he bobbled a bunted ball that allowed the Padres to score on a safety squeeze. Kershaw got just two swinging strikes vs. the Friars, and this third start vs. the Phillies could be more trouble because the Phils torch left-handed pitching (.777 OPS, .173 ISO) and have solid collective numbers against him (.789 OPS). Until he gets the hook or is put back on the IL, Kershaw is straight fade material.
