The Red Sox took the opener last night, 9-5, as they continue to swing hot bats at the dish post-All-Star break, and more help could be coming with the unexpected return of Trevor Story, who was thought to be out for the season after playing just eight games; however, he is traveling with the team and swinging the bat.

To try and keep the good times rolling, the BoSox will send out Brayan Bello (RHP - BOS), who owns a 1-0 record with an ERA of 2.77 in two career starts vs. Kansas City. Bello took the hill last Wednesday versus Seattle, where he struck out seven over 6.1 IP in a no-decision for his fifth quality start (QS) over his last eight starts after posting just two QS over his first dozen starts. A big reason for the turnaround is the fact that Bello’s strikeouts are up, as he has punched out at least seven in four of his last six starts.

The Royals have a rotation that features a group of pitchers that are overperforming this season, and Seth Lugo (RHP - KC) is one of them. Lugo is getting some Cy Young love from the talking heads, but he has benefited greatly from some good fortune this season, as his ERA is a sparkling 2.57 while his xERA is over a run higher (3.85). Not only that, but he also has an above-average strand rate (80.3%) and a low average Batting Average of Balls in Play (BABIP) of .258. Lugo looks good on the surface, but he’s been inconsistent of late, trading good and bad starts while losing three of his last five turns.
