Detroit over Cleveland
1:10 PM EST. We’re coming right back on the Tigers today, as they’ll go with an opener in Tyler Holton (RHP - DET) before likely giving way to Kenta Maeda, who will fill the bulk relief role. Holton actually opened the game on Tuesday night in Cleveland, where he pitched 1.2 IP and struck out two. On the season, Holton has a 3.07 ERA (3.44 xERA) with 44 Ks to 12 BBs in 55.2 innings.
As for the Guardians, they go with Gavin Williams (RHP - CLE), who is coming off a loss last Saturday in which he allowed three runs on six hits with two free passes in 3.2 innings of work. That was the shortest of Williams' four starts this season after he missed the first three months of the season with an elbow injury. In his limited time (18 IP), Williams has a 4.50 ERA, and his xERA is even more bloated at 5.30. He has 8 BB in those 18 IP with a 1.56 WHIP, and it appears as though his elbow may still be bothering him or he’s still rusty after a long layoff. Regardless, Williams is spotting an inflated price here, and we are going to try and capitalize.
