Oakland -1½ over L.A. Angels

9:40 PM EST. JP Sears (LHP - OAK) will get the ball for the A’s tonight after he pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball last Wednesday, where he struck out eight Red Sox at Fenway Park. Sears was one out shy of what would have been a seventh quality start, but regardless, it was a solid outing and one to build upon out of the break. Since his disastrous back-to-back starts versus the Twins in June, Sears has been tremendous, posting a 0.90 WHIP with a 20/4 K/BB ratio in three starts across 16.2 IP.

Meanwhile, Tyler Anderson (LHP - LAA) was an All-Star because the Angels had to send someone to Texas and pickings were slim. Anderson’s surface ERA of 2.97 must have looked good enough for him to get the nod because nobody obviously looked under the hood to see his inflated xERA of 5.02. Furthermore, Anderson has just 81 Ks in 118 innings, with 47 walks, and he’s been very lucky with a low Batting Average of Balls in Play (BABIP) of .288 while also sporting a groundball rate of just 36.6%. Anderson is a gas can that is ready to explode, and we are not going to miss it. Yeah, we’re taking the A’s on the run-line.
