It's time to “buy low” on MacKenzie Gore (RHP - WAS) after he had one of his worst outings of the season last Saturday, where he gave up five runs in just 3.1 innings of work versus the Cardinals. Prior to that turn, Gore was great in a start vs. the Mets, where he pitched 5.2 innings of one-run ball, striking out eight. On the year, Gore has 112 punchouts in 94 IP with an xERA of 3.07, and he’s been unlucky with a very high Batting Average on Balls in Play (BABIP) of .369. However, his swing-and-miss rate is great at 13.4%, so there could still be a correction to the good to his ERA and xERA.

The Mets will send David Peterson (LHP - NYM) out for his eighth start of the year, but if things keep going the way they are, it might be his last for a while. Peterson might look good on paper with a 3.58 ERA, but his xERA is a bloated 5.71. Not only that, but his strikeout rate is way down this year at just 6.45 K/9. In 2022, he had a 10.7 K/9, 3.83 ERA, and 3.31 xERA, and in 2023, Peterson had a 10.3 K/9, 5.03 ERA, and 3.59 xERA. Last year he was actually unlucky, but this year he’s been very lucky, and today he is grossly overpriced.
