9:38 PM EST. This is a bullpen day for the Angels, but that said, this play has little to do with Roansy Contreras (RHP - LAA) or anyone else the Halos will send out to the mound today, as we are here to fade the Rangers starter in the second game of this three-game series.

On the surface, it may look like Max Scherzer (RHP - TEX) is still on top of his game at 40, as he sports a 2.70 ERA over his first three starts of the season (16.2 IP), but his xERA is upwards of 4.57 and his strikeout numbers are way down, with this (5.94 K/9) being his lowest K rate since 2011. Furthermore, Scherzer’s swing-and-miss rate is at 10.7% (its lowest since 2011) and his called and swinging strike (CSW%) rate is just 25.4% (a career low). Scherzer is a flyball pitcher whose groundball rate is just 25% this season. He’s not striking dudes out, but he’s overpriced in the market, and we’re going to attack.
