11:05 AM EST. José Quintana (LHP - NYM) gave up two runs on six hits and three walks over 4 IP. The 35-year-old was wholly ineffective in that start after he threw 93 pitches across those innings, with only 54 of them going for strikes. Quintana is struggling this season with an xERA of 5.28 and a weak swing-and-miss rate of 7.5%. Quintana has tried to make an adjustment, as he’s been throwing far more curveballs over his last two starts, 33% and 23% respectively, after throwing it under 20% of the time so far this season. However, we trust that this is not going to make much of a difference over the long haul, and his propensity to nibble at the plate is not going to serve him well in the long term.

Meanwhile, Jake Irvin (LHP - WAS) picked up the win over Tampa Bay last Saturday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out five over 6 IP. The lone hit he gave up was a solo homer to Brandon Lowe in the first inning, and it was another solid performance from the second-year man. Irvin has posted seven quality starts over his past eight turns, where he sports a tremendous 2.09 ERA and 0.93 WHIP during that span. On the season, Irvin has been solid with a 3.03 ERA (3.53 xERA) and a 1.06 WHIP to go with an 86/23 K/BB ratio over 98 IP. Wrong side favored.
