2:35 PM EST. Max Scherzer (RHP - TEX) took the loss against the Orioles last Friday in his second start of the season, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 IP. Scherzer would only make it to 77 pitches before being pulled, as he is still being eased back into the lineup after an injury delayed the start of his season. In his 10.1 innings, Scherzer has posted his weakest swing-and-miss rate in a decade, and he’s been lucky with an 89.3% strand rate and a low Batting Average on Balls in Play of .148. Furthermore, while his surface ERA is a sparkling 1.74, his xERA is a bloated 4.43, which suggests that there could be some cracks forming here in the soon-to-be 40-year-old.

Michael King (RHP - SD) picked up the win last Saturday after allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 6 IP, where he struck out six. King actually shut out the Red Sox for five innings before giving up a solo home run to Jarren Duran, but that would be the only hit he gave up. It was also a quality start for King, as he racked up 63 of his 89 pitches for strikes. King has a 3.61 ERA backed by a 3.58 xERA, and he has a 115/39 K/BB through 99.2 IP. In a “buy low, sell high” situation, all the value here lies with King and the Friars. LFG!
