L.A. Angels over Oakland

9:40 PM EST. Joey Estes (RHP - OAK), took the loss last Wednesday against these Angels, where he allowed two runs on three hits and two walks across 5.2 IP and struck out eight. That was a career-high in punchouts for Estes in a game where the Halos were a -130 favorite. While it’s tempting to want to chase that level of success here with another start against the Angels, there is no value in doing so. Furthermore, it may not serve Estes well for the Halo bats to see him again so soon.

Meanwhile, the A’s will get their first look at Davis Daniel (RHP - LAA), who made an impact in his first MLB start last Thursday, where he shut out the Tigers over 8 IP. The 27-year-old had been called up a couple of times prior this season but did not see any game action. However, he did pitch 12 innings for the Angels in 2023, and while the sample was small, he did not look out of place at the big league level. He’s never likely to be a front-end starter, but that said, Daniel is an adept sequencer; he changes speeds well and hits his spots with everything he has to offer. Daniel brings a delivery that is not hard to repeat, and that simplicity allows him to consistently hit the strike zone. His slider is good enough to miss bats. Considering his athleticism and pitching intellect, Daniel is very much under the radar and presents some great value here that we are not going to miss out on.
