Washington +120 over N.Y. Yankees

7:05 PM ET. Mackenzie Gore (LHP - WAS) is getting the nod tonight after there was some chatter that he might miss this turn after dealing with a cut nail and a blister on his left index finger, but he was fine in his bullpen sessions over the weekend. This will be Gore's first start since his August 16 turn against Boston, where his finger began to bother him. As it stands, Gore will pitch this game on six days' rest. Despite his finger bothering him, Gore still pitched 6.1 scoreless innings of one-hit ball, where he struck out seven and walked two. Gore is finally beginning to show his highly touted draft stock, but truth be told, he's not why we are here. However, as an underdog in this range, considering the circumstances, Gore is as solid as any young arm to go into battle with.

The Yankees are 60-65 and 10½ games back of Seattle for the last Wild Card spot in the American League. Although it's not mathematically over, it's over. With that in mind, we must ask why the Yankees are priced today like their glory days and not the miserable existence they flounder in at the time of this writing.

As for the Yankees, they will go with Luis Severino (RHP - NYY), who took yet another loss (his eighth) of the season last Tuesday in Atlanta. It was his fourth straight loss and the third straight game that he was on the mound for at least five runs. Over his last eight starts, Severino has managed just a single quality start while also posting a truly impressive, in the worst way possible, WHIP of 2.31. He has 29 punchouts to 15 free passes in those 31.2 innings. Overlay.
