Cleveland +139 over Minnesota

2:10 PM EST. Joe Ryan (RHP - MIN) is coming off his worst start of the season, where he allowed five runs over four innings while striking out six versus the Astronauts. Before that outing, Ryan had thrown at least five innings while allowing three earned runs or less in eight starts. Dude is having a fine season but such blow-ups are always in play with extreme fly ballers. Joe Ryan’s groundball/fly-ball rate last game was 20%/71%. On the year, his groundball-fly-ball rate is 33%/50%. He and the Twinkies are now overpriced against a Cleveland team that has struck out the least amount of times in the AL and second least amount in the entire league.

Carlos Correa has been in and out of the Twins lineup since late May with plantar fasciitis and apparently his heel is "barking" enough to force him out of the game on June 2 and cause him to miss the game yesterday. It could be more of the same for a little while going forward or the Twins could opt to formally IL him for a couple weeks this time. Either way, just a heads-up.

Byron Buxton left the game on June 1 after a HBP. Initial testing showed no broken bones and he'll miss the next several games.

Joey Gallo also missed yesterday’s game. Right now, it’s “tightness” and “soreness,” but those are almost definitely symptoms of a strain. He’s likely to miss a couple more days and really should go on the IL and give it time to heal, but that’s not how baseball works. We’d say he’s about 65/35 to avoid the IL but this is a Minnesota team that is banged up badly but they’re priced like they’re not.

Triston McKenzie (RHP - CLE) comes off the 60-day injured list after a strain of his right teres major muscle and is ready to make his season debut. In three rehab starts, covering just 10 innings at Columbus (AAA), McKenzie struck out 13 batters. He did give up nine hits and three jacks but we promise you he was not going full-tilt, instead he was warming up to get ready for his season debut. Make no mistake that Triston McKenzie firmly is one of the most talented young starting pitchers in the game. Behind his good skills in 2022 (xERA of 3.36) were even better command building blocks (13.2% swing and miss rate, 32% Ball%). It was a huge step forward, but there might be another level. PRO: Control gains backed by xBB%; 2nd half K% blitz lines up with swing and miss rate; rare-air dominant start/disaster start splits. CON: Massive IP jump for a string-bean frame. It’s very noteworthy that Minnesota has struck out the most times in the entire league and they’ll face a strikeout pitcher here. Win or lose, this is an absolute overlay on the Twins.
