Miami +114 over L.A. Angels

4:07 PM EST. Eury Pérez (RHP - MIA) the Marlins’ top prospect and one of the very best pitching prospects in the game will make his fourth MLB start after his explosive rise to the major leagues. The 20-year-old, ultra-lanky 6’8’’ righthander rapidly blossomed into a pitching machine after signing with the Marlins in 2019, pitching as one of the youngest players at every level of the minor leagues. His raw stuff is readily apparent; he has never struck out less than 30% of batters at any level of the minors. He has also shown polished command, repeating his delivery well and never walking more than 10% of batters. In his first two starts,Perez has not looked a bit out of place with 16 K’s over 14 frames, supported by an elite 14.1% swing and miss rate. In terms of his arsenal, Pérez features a 4-pitch mix of a 95-97 four-seam, a slider and curveball with distinct shapes, and a nasty change-up he uses to put away batters. All four pitches grade as potentially plus with the change-up ranking as his best. He has all the components to be a true ace and is in an organization that has demonstrated aptitude for developing pitchers. This kid is outstanding and so we’ll continue to monitor him and play him when he’s a pooch.

Patrick Sandoval (RHP - LAA) has nothing but misleading surface stats that include an ERA of 3.47. His skills do not come close to supporting that ERA, thus making Sandoval one of the most overvalued pitchers on the board today. Dude has a lousy 34 K’s in 49 innings. He has also walked 20 batters. That’s a horrible ratio. Sandoval has produced that misleading ERA thanks to a trifecta of good fortune, which included an unsustainable .247 BABIP and a just as unsustainable .26% hit rate. The ball is in play when he pitches and the Marlins are seeing the ball well at this park with eight runs scored yesterday and six runs scored on Friday. Sandoval’s 6.50 xERA says regression is coming and it’s coming quickly.
