Chicago +115 over Cleveland

1:10 PM EST. Cal Quantrill (RHP - CLE) is living proof that if you have decent control, you can make a career out of it despite below average skills. He has had three straight years of sub-3.50 ERAs, but his xERA over that stretch is 4.88. His one strong skill is his control. His BB% has helped him keep his WHIP consistently better than league average. However, his swing and miss rate and K-BB% are uninspiring. This year, Quantrill has a BB/K split of 15/29 in 51 innings and his groundball rate is just 41%. He’s always at the mercy of BABIP (he sits at a lucky .268 this year) so as the chalk, the risk is too great and that proof is in his 5.28 xERA this season after nine starts.

Michael Kopech (RHP - CHW) is the owner of some below average stats after his first nine starts of the season (4.83 ERA). However, Kopech has been barreled at a rate that is bound to regress (34.4%). His 31% called + swinging strike rate is an indication that his stuff is good. Kopech is coming off eight shutout innings with 10 strikeouts versus the Royals and will look to put forth another solid start today versus the Guardians, a team that is hitting .221 against righties in May and is dead last in the entire league in OPS v righties. Kopech has 51 K’s in 50 frames and is throwing 96 MPH heat. When he’s throwing strikes, he can be ace-like and as a pooch today against Cleveland we’ll take our chances.
