7:40 PM EST. The Twins will send Louie Varland (RHP - MIIN) to the mound today to make his third start of the season. Through two turns and 10.2 innings, Varland has 14 K’s to just three walks and his profile graded him to be a middle of the rotation prospect from the get go. In his five starts last season, Varland posted a 3.81 ERA with 21 punchouts to six walks in 26 innings. Our favorite thing about Varland is that his delivery has been described as “violent”.

Meanwhile, Michael Wacha (RHP - SD) has had an up-and-down season so far, with a 2-1 record and a 5.46 ERA, which is backed by an equally inflated xERA of 5.37. Wacha has seen a decline in his ground ball rate over last season where it was 41%, here in 2023 it is just 28.7%. Finally, Wacha sports a WHIP of 1.40, which is hard to overcome and makes him difficult to back in what is presented as a 50/50 proposition.
