Miami +145 over Philadelphia

1:10 PM EST. Kyle Gibson (RHP - PHI) just beat the Nationals by twirling eight innings of one-run ball—in case you’re wondering what he’s capable of, even if it’s against weaker competition. Remove a pair of starts in which he allowed six runs in less than five innings and Gibson has a 2.66 ERA in those other seven outings since June 15. Gibson’s ability to throw the kitchen sink at hitters—he uses six pitches at least 7% of the time—always has the potential to throw opponents off balance. However, his strikeouts are extraordinarily rare—just 5.5 per nine innings since June 15. Any start Gibson makes, there’s a risk he doesn’t strike out anyone and allows a few runs, meaning some less than nice results. Kyle Gibson is a nice underdog but as the chalk in this range, we’ll attack.

There are 26 teams in this league that would trade their entire pitching staff to Miami in return for Miami’s entire pitching staff. Edward Cabrera (RHP - MIA) is another Miami starter with filthy stuff that is absolutely worth getting behind for the remainder of the year. He’s only made four starts this year covering 21 innings but has generated a league-leading (although he doesn’t qualify) 23% swing and miss rate with an elite groundball rate of 50% to go along with an outstanding line-drive rate of 15%. This tall, big-armed prospect spent the final six weeks in the Marlins rotation last year, flashing skills consistent with his top-notch scouting reports. Cabrera was called up at the start of June and responded with two six-inning starts during which he yielded only one run (on a homer) and three hits. Dude can pitch with the only chink in his armor being a lack of control. He walks guys, which is never a good look but he compensated with K’s. The window to buy low on him will close fast.
